May - Lily of the Valley

Cherished and revered in many countries for its symbolism and folklore, lily of the valley was believed to strengthen memory, restore speech, treat gout, and to make one have good common sense. All parts of the plant are considered poisonous, despite its alleged powers. Legend holds that the tears Mary shed at the cross turned to lilies of the valley, and thus the flowers are also known as ‘Mary’s tears.’
